Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Myrtle Beach, SC - Tim Hudson set the tone early as the Atlanta Braves ace laid the foundation for Myrtle Beach, who rolled to a 7-2 win over Winston-Salem on Sunday night at BB&T Coastal Field. Hudson, who was making his first rehab start since undergoing Tommy John surgery last August, tossed two shutout innings and only surrendered a walk. The two-time major league all-star recorded a pair of strikeouts and helped the Pelicans even this three-game series at a game apiece.

Jacob Thompson took over after Hudson's departure and kept the Dash off the scoreboard until the ninth inning. Thompson (3-2) picked up the win after he limited Winston-Salem to two runs on five hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Myrtle Beach snapped a scoreless game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off Dash starting pitcher Jacob Rasner. Michael Fisher drew a leadoff walk and Donell Linares reached on an error to put runners on first and second. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Cody Johnson delivered an RBI single and Ernesto Mejia followed with an RBI double to give the Pelicans a 2-0 lead.

A leadoff solo home run by Linares in the sixth helped ignite a four-run inning and extend Myrtle Beach's advantage to 6-0. Mejia added a run-scoring hit and Benji Johnson smacked a two-run shot for the Pelicans. Cody Johnson would continue the home run parade with a solo shot off Tyson Corley to begin the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Johnson's league-leading 24th blast which set a new Myrtle Beach single-season record for home runs. The previous mark was held by Mike Hessman, who tallied 23 homers in 1999.

The Dash avoided being shutout when the offense produced a pair of runs in the ninth inning. Catcher Logan Johnson registered an RBI double and shortstop Greg Paiml added a run-scoring single.

Tyler Kuhn finished 0-for-4 to snap his season-high 13-game hitting streak. Rasner (3-1) surrendered five runs (four earned) on four hits and suffered his first loss of the season.

The Dash and Pelicans will conclude this three-game series on Monday night at BB&T Coastal Field. Winston-Salem will send RHP Johnnie Lowe (6-4, 4.51) to the mound, while Myrtle Beach will counter with RHP Erik Cordier (4-3, 3.21). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Winston-Salem returns to Wake Forest Baseball Park on Friday, July 24 when they open a six-game home stand with the first of three against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The Dash will host a fireworks extravaganza following Friday night's game and all tickets for Saturday's contest against the Pelicans are only $5 in advance and include a FREE Dash hat. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
