Salem Red Sox (46-45, 14-8) @ Lynchburg Hillcats (52-39, 7-15)

Game #92

City Stadium - Lynchburg, VA - Road Game #46

Probable Starters: RHP Kyle Weiland (3-6, 4.14) vs LHP Justin Wilson (3-6, 6.29)

Aiming to Ascend: With a win today, the Red Sox would move to two games above .500 for the first time since May 18, just over two months ago. The Sox were 20-18 at that point in the first half, in the midst of a rough stretch that fell them con- siderably below .500. Salem's high-water mark came on May 5 following a four-win stretch that brought the Sox to 15-11. From their, the Red Sox went 10-24 to drop a season worst ten-games below at 25-35. Since then, the Sox are 21-10 and leading the second half in the Carolina League South.

A Worthy Replacement: It would seemingly be impossible to replace Casey Kelly in a rotation, but the man who did the job when Kelly left Greenville was up to the task in Salem as well. Stephen Fife tossed six strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits in receiving a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-1, 10-inning victory. In nine starts this season between the Drive and Sox, Fife has totaled 40 strikeouts and only four walks. Without an official win on the year, Fife's ERA is 2.53.

For the Longest Time: Friday evening's Sox-Cats game was the longest Carolina League Contest of the season, both in terms of innings and time of game. Salem finally prevailed after four hours and 43 minutes in the 15th inning.
