Frederick Keys News Release
After scoring twice in its last three games, the Keys quickly broke out of its offensive funk, scoring early and often en route to an 8-5 win in its series finale in Wilmington Sunday afternoon.
Four batters into the game the Keys led 2-0 and through the top of the third inning the lead had swelled to 6-0.
The big inning came in the second inning as the Keys took advantage of Wilmington's defensive miscues.
With RF Wally Crancer at first base and two outs, CF Matt Angle chpped a ball over the pitcher's mound. WIlmington SS Anthony Seratelli charged and made a soft errant throw to first base, allowing Angle to reach safely on the error to keep the inning alive.
Frederick quickly took advantage as SS Pedro Florimon doubled home both runners on a line drive to the alleyway in right-center field. Florimon would score a batter later on another Seratelli error.
In the third inning Crancer blasted a home run out to right field, his fifth of the year to up the lead to 6-0.
Frederick got a solid outing from starter Sean Gleason who worked through six innings to earn his second Carolina League win. After winning nine games in the second half of 2008 in Class-A Delmarva, Gleason has both of his wins with Frederick in five second half starts this season.
Wilmington threatened late down 8-5 in the eighth inning.
The Blue Rocks had runners at second and third base after C Ryan Eigsti doubled with one down. In from the bullpen came RHP Eddie Gamboa who struck out DH Chase Fontaine and CF Derrick Robinson in succession to preserve the lead.
Gamboa set down the side in order in the ninth inning to register his first Carolina League save. He has not allowed a run in seven appearances with Frederick.
The Keys have Monday off but continue on the road Tuesday evening in Salem to take on the Red Sox at 7:00 p.m. LHP Zach Britton will get the start for the Keys who trail Potomac by 3.5 games in the north.
Frederick will return home Friday, July 24th for a 7:00 p.m. game against Lynchburg. Fireworks will follow the contest.
