THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg lost 4-2 to Salem last night at City Stadium in the middle-game of a three-game series...The Hillcats have lost the first two games of this set and six out of their last seven games...Tonight they look to avoid getting swept in a three-game series for the first time this season in the final game of the series against Salem and the third contest of a six-game homestand...The Cats finished their recent road trip with a 3-4 mark, taking two out of three at Winston-Salem and dropping three-out of four at Potomac...

VS. SALEM: The Hillcats are 6-6 against the Red Sox in the 460 series this season and are 3-4 at Calvin Falwell Field...Last season the Cats won the season series against Salem, then the Avalanche and an affiliate of the Houston Astros, by a count of 12-8...Salem was the only team in the Carolina League that the Hillcats had a winning record against...In the all-time series Salem leads 151-133, but they are 65-77 in the Hill City...After winning six of the first seven games against Salem this season, Lynchburg has lost five straight against the Sox...

CITY STADIUM SLUMP: Last night was the fourth straight loss at home for the Hillcats...After starting the season with 23-7 mark, they have gone 3-10 since to fall to 26-18 on the season...

DIVING DEFENSE: Lynchburg had their second consecutive three error game last night in their 4-2 defeat...In 22 games in the second half the Hillcats have committed 26 errors and they have led to 22 unearned runs...The Cats committed 47 errors in the first half of the season that lead to 29 unearned runs in 69 games and they led the Carolina League in fielding percentage (.977)...

POSITION TO SCORE: In the last eight games, in which the Hillcats are 2-6, they are batting .163 (15-for-92) with men in scoring position and have stranded an average of eight and a half men per contest...They have left 23 men on base in the first two games of this series and are just 3-for-27 (.111) with men in scoring position...

LENGTHY STINT: The Hillcats activated RHP Tom Boleska from the Disabled List today after he had elbow surgery...He has not played since April 15th when he earned a victory in three innings of relief against Winston-Salem...He was placed on the DL on April 17th...

BATTLING BISHOP: RHP Harrison Bishop tossed two and 1/3 scoreless innings last night and struck out three and did not allow a hit...He has now worked eight a 1/3 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run...He has struck out 13 and allowed just two hits over that time and lowered his ERA from 6.27 to 5.15...

UNCHARTED TERRITORY: RHP Bryan Morris pitched a career-high six and 2/3 innings last night in the Hillcats 4-2 loss...He allowed four runs on six hit and struck out a pair in his eighth start of the season for Lynchburg...In his previous two starts he had lasted just a combined six innings...His outing a night ago was just third time this season he has gotten through five innings and it was the first time in five starts he has made it through the fifth...

THE SECRET OF THE GOO: 1B Matt Hague went 2-for-4 last night with a run and extended his hitting streak to seven games...Over that time he is 13-for-31 (.419) with six doubles, three RBI, three runs and two walks...He has hit in 18 of his last 21 games and over that time he has raised his average from .278 to .301...He is tied for seventh in the Carolina League in batting...Last night was the third consecutive multi-hit game for Hague, his fourth in five games and he leads the team with his 24th multi-hit contest of the season...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: RHP Kyle Weiland was selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Notre Dame...He pitched primarily in relief in his three years of work for the Irish, going 2-2 with a 5.04 ERA with seven saves in 26 games his junior season last year...He made his professional debut last year as well with Short-Season Low-A Lowell, and went 3-3 with a 1.50 ERA in 15 games (10 starts) with the Spinners...This season he skipped full season Low-A to head to Salem and has gone 2-6 with a 4.71 ERA with the Res Sox...After starting the season 1-5 with a 7.78 ERA in his first nine starts, he has a record of 2-1 with 1.18 ERA in his last eight outings...One of those recent successful starts was in Salem against Lynchburg on June 29th when he dealt five and 2/3 scoreless innings in a win over the Hillcats...That is his only start against the Cats prior to this evening...He was ranked as the 23rd best prospect in the Red Sox system prior to the start of this season by Baseball America...
