How Sweep It Is: 'Dogs Beat Richmond 9-5

Richmond, VA - The Portland Sea Dogs (25-43) scored 7 runs over innings 5 and 6, taking the roadtrip finale, 9-5 from the Richmond Flying Squirrels (26-43) on Father's Day at the Diamond in Richmond, Virigina. Portland completed their first sweep of the season and the first 3-game sweep on the road since August 22-24, 2014 at New Hampshire.

Teddy Stankiewicz (2-6) earned his first road win of the season, working 5 innings on 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Taylor Grover closed out the game with two scoreless.

Danny Bethea (3-for-5) knocked in Portland's first run with a two-out RBI single in the second inning off losing pitcher Andrew Suarez (2-4). Richmond rallied for three runs in their half of the inning.

In the fifth, the 'Dogs sent all nine to the plate, scoring four times on five hits. Andrew Benintendi brought Portland within a run on a sac-fly and Sean Coyle scored a wild pitch. Aneury Tavarez (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Tim Roberson delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Portland added three more in the sixth on a two-run single by Cody Decker (2-for-4) and a sac-fly by Tavarez.

Ryan Court collected 3 hits, knocking in the final run with a single. Ty Buttrey allowed one run over two innings in relief of Stankiewicz.

Portland finished the roadtrip 4-2 and took 5 of 6 this season against Richmond. Ray Black struckout the side for Richmond in the eighth, hitting 100 miles-per-hour times on the stadium radar gun.

The Sea Dogs have a scheduled off day on Monday and return to action on Tuesday night, opening up a 6-game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals affiliate) at Hadlock Field. Portland has righty Kevin McAvoy (3-3, 8.13) on the mound against Harrisburg's Tyler Mapes (6-4, 2.90). Radio coverage on the WPEI US Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:40 PM.
