June 19, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Trenton Thunder News Release

The Thunder completed a sweep of the Binghamton Mets behind seven innings of one-run baseball from Ronald Herrera, 3-1, in front of 5,729 fans on Sunday afternoon at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Herrera's effort was just another outstanding performance thrown by a Trenton starting pitcher. Over the last five games, starters have allowed one unearned run on 16 hits and five walks and struck out 28 over their last 33.1 innings. Over the last 44 innings pitched by Thunder starting pitchers, they've allowed just three earned runs, a spectacular 0.61 ERA.

The lone run for the B-Mets scored thanks to a throwing error by Cito Culver in the second inning of the game. The Thunder responded to that run with one of their own in the top of the second. Mark Payton tripled with one out and three pitches later, Sebastian Valle drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center.

The Thunder grabbed the lead in the sixth inning against Mickey Jannis with a leadoff single by Billy Fleming and a double from Mark Payton. Later in the frame, Dante Bichette Jr. drove in Payton with a solid single to left to take a 3-1 lead in the game.

Payton went 3-for-4 and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Tyler Wade also singled twice in the game. He's batting .306 with a .422 on-base percentage in his last 23 games.

Tyler Jones and Jonathan Holder finished off the win with two scoreless innings on the mound. Holder grabbed his fifth save of the year for the Thunder.

Your Thunder hit the road for a seven-game trip to Bowie and Akron on Tuesday. Listen live to Thunder baseball on 91.3 WTSR and online at Trentonthunder.com. The Thunder return home to host the Portland Sea Dogs on Monday, June 27 at 7:00pm. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
