June 19, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron's Jordan Smith stroked a game-winning triple in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the RubberDucks to a 2-1 victory and a three-game sweep over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.
Turning Point
With the game tied, 1-1, Akron's Jeremy Lucas led off the 10th with a single off Jason Berken (2-7). It was Lucas' third hit of the game. Berken was then lifted in favor of lefty Matt Dermody, who came in to face Smith, who is a left-handed hitter. On Dermody's first pitch, Smith ripped a sinking line drive to right field that skipped past Dwight Smith, Jr. Lucas circled the bases and scored the winning run well ahead of the throw home. Smith was credited with a three-base hit, his second of the season.
Winging It
Three RubberDucks pitchers combined on a six-hitter in the 2-1 victory. Left-hander Rob Kaminsky started and went six innings, allowing one run on five hits. He did not walk a batter and fanned one. He allowed a run in the third inning on a double by Wilkin Castillo and a bloop single to left by Roemon Fields that tied the game, 1-1. Robbie Aviles took over after Kaminsky and worked three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out two. Fireballer J.P. Feyereisen (3-1) came on in the 10th and tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts to pick up the win.
Duck Tales
Smith was 1-3 with a walk Sunday. It was his second game-winning hit for the RubberDucks this season. He won a game against Altoona with a 12th inning, RBI single on Sunday, May 1st. Bradley Zimmer was 1-3 with a double and a pair of steals. He walked in the first inning, stole second and third and scored on a RBI single by Nellie Rodriguez to give Akron a 1-0 lead. Rodriguez leads the team with 45 RBI. Clint Frazier had a pair of singles, raising his average to .295.
