
Houston Dynamo Sign DF Sam Junqua

HOUSTON - The Houston Dynamo have signed left back Sam Junqua , the club announced today. Houston selected Junqua with the eighth overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft on Jan. 11.
Junqua saw action in 68 games with 45 starts during his four-year career at the University of California, Berkeley. The defender tallied three assists with the Golden Bears and earned an All-Pac-12 Conference honorable mention in 2018.
As a senior, Junqua was on the field more than any other Cal player, totaling 1,666 minutes played, and recorded nine shots and one assist. Offensively, hs also the Bears' primary option on corner kicks.
The Saratoga, Calif. native joined the U-18 U.S. Men's National Team in 2013 and was named to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy West Conference Best XI for the 2012/2013 season.
With the addition of Junqua, the Dynamo now have 25 players under contract for the 2019 season.
