Cedar Rapids, IA - Julio Cedeno stroked three base hits and Steve Tinoco drove in three runs, but the Hot Rods couldn't overcome an early eight-run hole in a 9-6 loss to Cedar Rapids (10-11, 42-49). The loss completes a three game sweep, leaving the Hot Rods (9-12, 50-41) with four straight losses heading into the final series of the road trip in Quad Cities beginning on Saturday night.

Cedeno's first hit came with the Hot Rods already trailing 4-0 in the top of the second inning. Leading off the frame, Cedeno ripped a line drive to left field but was stranded at third base later in the inning.

He next came up in the fourth after Cedar Rapids tacked on four more runs to build an 8-0 lead. Cedeno began the frame with a ringing double off the wall in left-center field. He took third on a Nick Schwaner fly out before scoring when Tinoco singled him home to cut the deficit to 8-1.

In the fifth, Cedeno and Tinoco figured into another Hot Rods rally. With one out the Hot Rods loaded the bases up on a pair of walks and a hit batter. Starter A.J. Schugel left the game at that point for reliever Seth Fowler. Cedeno greeted the newcomer with a sharp single to left to plate the first run of the inning. A bases-loaded walk to Schwaner and a run-scoring bounce out by Tinoco followed to add two more runs and leave the score at 9-4.

An inning later the Hot Rods tacked on another run, this time without the help of Cedeno or Tinoco. Kevin Kiermaier began the frame with a double down the left field line. He took third on a one-out single from Robby Price. Two batters later Phil Wunderlich put up a lengthy at-bat before singling Kiermaier home for the fifth Hot Rods run.

Cedeno and Tinoco figured into the Hot Rods last-gasp comeback attempt in the top of the ninth. Dietrich, Wunderlich, and Cedeno all walked against to begin the frame against new pitcher Tyler Kehrer. That meant a quick hook for Kehrer, who left the game after three batters for Daniel Tillman. The new righty induced Schwaner into a 1-2-3 double play for the first two outs of the inning. Tinoco followed with his third RBI, a two-out single to right before Keith Castillo flied out to end the game at 9-6.

Eliazer Suero (5-4) took the loss for the Hot Rods. The righty allowed four runs in the first and third innings in his roughest start of the season. Chris Rearick followed with three innings of relief, allowing one run on three hits. Omar Bencomo retired all six batters he faced in two perfect innings of relief.

The Hot Rods now head to Davenport, IA, to begin the final leg of this three-series road trip on Saturday night against the Quad Cities River Bandits (St. Louis Cardinals). LHP Enny Romero (2-5, 4.93) takes the ball in the series opener against Quad Cities RHP Zach Russell (5-7, 3.42). First pitch is at 7 PM CDT.
