GENEVA, Ill. - In his Midwest League debut, Andrew Liebel spun six impressive innings and Jake Marisnick and Garis Pena each homered as the Lansing Lugnuts (13-8; 51-37) completed a three-game sweep of the host Kane County Cougars (13-8; 41-49) with a 3-2 squeaker on Friday night at Elfstrom Stadium.

Lansing outscored the Western Division leaders 10-3 in the series.

Liebel (Win, 1-0), the Blue Jays' 3rd round pick in 2008, had skipped Lansing on his way up the Toronto Blue Jays ladder in 2009. Now returning from shoulder surgery, the 25-year-old right-hander made a fine first impression, striking out six and limiting the Cougars to just three hits and one run.

Kane County spot-starter Santiago Garrido (Loss, 0-3) pitched well, but was reached for a Marcus Knecht first inning sacrifice fly and solo roundtrippers from Pena and Marisnick in the third inning.

A disputed Jake Kuebler home run in the seventh trimmed the Lugs' lead to one run, but reliever Brandon Berl induced DH Julio Aparicio to hit into a rally-killing double play to end a two-on, one-out threat.

Dayton Marze pitched the ninth in perfect fashion for his fifth save.

The Lugnuts now head to Clinton, Iowa, for the final leg of their season-high nine-game, 10-day road trip, starting left-hander Egan Smith (4-3, 3.48) opposite LumberKings right-hander George Mieses (0-2, 5.48).

Lansing will be back in action at Cooley Law School Stadium on Wednesday, July 20, at 12:05 p.m., taking on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on a Summer Fun Day. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.lansinglugnuts.com, at the stadium box office, and by calling 517-485-4500.
