RH Daniel Renken (4-8, 3.75) vs. RH Trevor Rosenthal (3-7, 3.57)

Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Quad Cities River Bandits (affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals) in the last game of a three-game series. Season Series: Dayton 1, Quad Cities 1.

Last Night: Dayton defeated Quad Cities 12-8 to even the series at one win apiece. Tucker Barnhart's RBI single in the top of the ninth inning broke an 8-8 tie, and Ronald Torreyes added a two-run double later in the inning. The game went back and forth several times with four lead changes and ties at 4-4, 6-6, and 8-8. The Dragons finished with 15 hits including three by both Torreyes and Yorman Rodriguez, who belted a two-run home run and drove in four runs. Barnhart drove in three runs and David Vidal added two doubles. The Dragons walked a season-high nine times.

Today's Dragons Starting Pitcher: Midwest League strikeouts leader Daniel Renken makes his team-leading 18th start of 2011 tonight. In Renken's last start Saturday vs. South Bend, he earned the victory (6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 SO). On June 29 vs. Lansing, Renken tied a Midwest League record set in 1966 when he struck out 10 consecutive batters beginning with the final batter of the first inning and continuing through the fourth. He also tied Josh Hall's club record set in 2001 for strikeouts in a game with 14. For the year, Renken has allowed one run or less in seven of his 17 starts. Renken was a late signee in 2010 by the Reds after being drafted in June in the 25th round out of Cal State Fullerton. In the spring of 2010 at CSF, Renken posted a record of 12-2 with 3.96 ERA. He tied for fifth in the nation in victories and earned Collegiate Baseball 3rd Team All-American honors while earning 1st Team All-Big West Conference for the second time in his college career. Renken led the Titans in starts and tied for the team lead in victories as Cal State Fullerton finished one victory short of qualifying for the eight-team College World Series, losing to eventual CWS runner-up UCLA in the Super Regional, two games to one. He finished his college career at CSF with a 27-10 record. Renken is afflicted with Type I Diabetes and pitches with an insulin pump that monitors his blood sugar at all times.
