South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Beloit, WI - For the first time in nearly two weeks, the South Bend Silver Hawks woke the offense up and tallied double digit hits as they routed the Beloit Snappers 10-2 on Friday night at Pohlman Field.

All facets of the game finally clicked for the Hawks, who had lost 10 of their last 11 matchups. The offense scored 10 runs on 12 hits, the defense was flawless, and the pitching was spectacular as the team salvaged one game of the three game series.

Matt Helm and Gerson Montilla led the offense with solo homers - the second of the year for both. Both players added other hits in the game as well, finishing with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Montilla also stole two bases while Helm stole one in the impressive victory.

Not to be outdone, Niko Gallego enjoyed his best day in a South Bend uniform, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Yazy Arbelo added a two run single in the ninth inning and Raywilly Gomez had two hits, two runs, and a RBI as well for the Silver Hawks.

Don't forget about Ender Inciarte either, as he was 1-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. Zach Walters also had a hit and a run scored in the total team effort.

While the offense was taking care of the scoring, starter Jeff Shields (WP, 5-9) turned in another impressive outing. For the fifth straight outing, Shields gave the Silver Hawks a quality start (6 IP and three earned runs or less) as he allowed just two runs on the night. Unlike the other four quality starts, this time Shields was credited with a victory as the offense finally gave him some run support.

Chris Odegaard (ND), Jeremy Erben (ND), and Keith Cantwell (ND) followed Shields with a scoreless inning each, keeping the Snappers hitless for the final three frames.

The Silver Hawks continue the Wisconsin road trip in Appleton on Saturday, battling the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers) at 7:35 PM Eastern Time. RHP Bradin Hagens (4-3, 4.12 ERA) takes the mound for South Bend against Wisconsin's LHP Del Howell (1-5, 5.36 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 7:15 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
