River Bandits knock off Dayton

The Quad Cities River Bandits were held hitless through six seventh innings before scoring six unanswered runs to knock off the Dayton Dragons, 6-4, and clinch the series victory over the East Division leader on Friday night at Modern Woodmen Park in front of 4,725 fans.

Oscar Taveras (2-for-3) broke up the Dragon no-hit bid with a single in the seventh inning. The Bandits still trailed 4-1 entering the bottom of the eighth inning when Quad Cities erupted with five runs in the frame, capped off by a three-run homer by Victor Sanchez (1-for-4).

Dragon starter Daniel Renken went six no-hit innings, walking three and striking out seven batters.

Trevor Rosenthal started for Quad Cities, and in six innings of work, allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out four. Dean Kiekhefer (W, 3-1) relived Rosenthal in the seventh and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Kiekhefer struck out three and walked none in the game. Aiden Lucas (S, 8) came on to close the game for the Bandits in the ninth and pitched one scoreless inning while striking out one.

Kolten Wong (3-for-4) extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games with his 1-for-4 performance. Oscar Taveras went 2-for-3 on the night and extended his hitting streak to ten games. Michael Swinson went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI on the night and extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Wong also set a new River Bandit record in a post-game camouflage jersey auction with his jersey selling for $1,900. All proceeds from the Iowa Army National Guard jersey auction tonight will benefit American Legion Post 29.

The Bandits begin a new series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods Saturday in the Hot Rods first ever trip to the Quad Cities. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park. Saturday is also Chuck Long Legends of Hawkeye Football Bobblehead giveaway and Elvis Night. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m and the bobbleheads will be distributed to the first 2,000 fans through the gates, one bobblehead per fan. Modern Woodmen Park favorite Elvis Himselvis will perform all of "The King's" greatest hits in the Mediacom Sports Lounge after the game.
