Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Lansing, MI - Marty Gantt drove in four runs to lead the Bowling Green Hot Rods (62-42, 24-12) to a 7-1 win over the Lansing Lugnuts (44-60, 12-23) on Sunday at Cooley Law School Stadium. Andrew Toles contributed with a four-hit day as Jordan Harrison did not allow a run in five innings in the starter's role.
Four runs came in for Bowling Green in the top of the first inning as the Hot Rods were out of the starting gate quickly. Toles, Tyler Goeddel, and Tommy Coyle all singled to begin the game with Toles scoring on the Coyle single. Justin O'Conner then brought in the second run on his groundout to second base. Two batters later, Marty Gantt cleared the bases with a double to centerfield to score two more runs.
In the top of the second inning, a two-out Coyle double set up O'Conner with another RBI opportunity. The Hot Rods cleanup hitter came through with an RBI single to left field to put the Hot Rods in the lead 5-0. Gantt then connected for his first homerun since June 2 in the fifth inning. The solo shot gave the Hot Rods a 6-0 advantage.
The early scoring barrage lifted Harrison to his second win of the season. The lefty escaped from some early jams and stranded eight Lugnuts on the bases in his five shutout inning. In his last 11 innings in the starter's role, Harrison has allowed just one run.
Stone Speer pitched three innings of relief, allowing just one run. Gantt added a late sacrifice fly for his fourth RBI of the game.
The three-game series with the Lugnuts wraps on Monday night at 6:05 PM CDT at Cooley Law School Stadium. The Hot Rods will send LHP Matt Spann (3-1, 2.20) to the mound opposite RHP Ben White (6-6, 3.57) of the Lugnuts. The broadcast starts with Hank Fuerst on the Forever Communications Pregame Show at 5:35 PM CDT on the Hot Rods Radio Network (1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and 1340wbgn.com).
Bowling Green Ballpark returns to action in early August with a nine-game homestand to open the month. The Hot Rods will host the Dayton Dragons on August 1 along with Red, White, and Blue Night presented by AAA Systems, honoring members of the military, firefighters, and police personnel. The game will also serve as Thirsty Thursday, with $2 food and drink specials made possible by All-Hit WUHU 107 and Beaver 96.7.
