Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons scored seven runs in their final two innings, turning a 5-1 deficit into an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. An eighth-inning grand slam from Beau Amaral was the difference-maker, putting the Dragons in the lead for good.
As Fort Wayne (12-22, 55-48) did on Saturday night, it took an early lead on Sunday afternoon. Corey Adamson singled home Gabriel Quintana in the second inning, and Diego Goris used a third-inning sacrifice fly to score Mallex Smith, giving the TinCaps a 2-0 lead. That advantage expanded in the sixth inning when Luis Domoromo hit a solo home run to right field.
Dayton (20-16, 48-57) started its scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning. Seth Mejias-Brean hit into a double play, allowing Sammy Diaz to cross home. That was the only run allowed by TinCaps starter Bryan Rodriguez who, in six innings, allowed five hits, walked four and struck out four.
Smith and Maxx Tissenbaum each drove in a run in the seventh inning, stretching the lead to 5-1. Ruben Mejia entered in the seventh and, despite recording two outs, allowed one run. Trevor Gott (1-1) replaced Mejia, ending the seventh, but Gott encountered trouble of his own in the eighth inning. He allowed a leadoff home run to Mejias-Brean, a walk to Tanner Rahier, and with one out, three straight hits, one of which scored a run, to load the bases. Chris Nunn entered the game with the TinCaps leading, 5-4, and allowed a grand slam to Beau Amaral, which put Dayton in front, 8-5.
Dayton's Alejandro Chacin struck out the side in the ninth, earning his second save of the year. Dragons reliever Joey Housey (2-1) vultured the win.
The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for Monday night at 7:00 PM. The scheduled starters are Joe Ross for Fort Wayne and Ismael Guillon for Dayton. The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
