Burlington Bees News Release

The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored five runs in the ninth, including a walk-off two-run double by Garrett Cooper to defeat the Burlington Bees 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field.

The scene was set on Sunday for Reid Scoggins to pick up his second win of the season, after tossing five innings for just the second time in 2013; however, the Rattlers (43-57, 14-21) took advantage of poor pitching and defense in the ninth to score five in the bottom of the ninth and defeat the Bees (39-61, 13-22).

Christopher O'Grady began the ninth by allowing a single to Max Walla and back-to-back walks to Tyler Roberts and Orlando Arcia. Cameron Bedrosian (1-4) was summoned out of the bullpen and that's when the defense fell apart.

Alfredo Rodriguez reached on a fielding error by Wendell Soto, which scored Walla. Tyrone Taylor hit a routine double play ball to Soto, but Garrett Cannizaro's turn to first came up on Wade Hinkle and allowed two runs to score. Roberts was already going to score, but Arcia came home when the ball got away from Hinkle. Taylor was caught stealing for the second out of the inning. Victor Roache singled to left with two strikes on him and Mike Garza followed with a chopper into left field. Cooper hit a line drive to right field on an 0-2 pitch that was misplayed and allowed both Roache and Garza to score and give Wisconsin the victory.

Scoggins surrendered a run in the first on a triple by Garza that scored Roache, who had walked with two outs. Apart from that one run, Scoggins was sensational. He went five innings for the second time this season, with the other outing coming in a win against Clinton. Joey Krehbiel and Kurt Spomer combined for three scoreless frames out of the bullpen.

The Bees scored three runs in the third off of Austin Ross. Sherman Johnson lined a two-run home run over the left field wall and Wade Hinkle singled home Pedro Toribio. Toribio finished 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases, while Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Hinkle was 2-for-4 with a RBI.

Burlington added two more in the fifth on three straight singles by Johnson, Toribio and Cayones. Cayones' base hit brought home Johnson, while Toribio touched home on a throwing error by Roberts, who was trying to catch Cayones stealing second.

Chris Razo (1-0) earned the win after tossing two perfect innings of relief.

The Bees will try to avoid the sweep when they take on the Rattlers at 7:05 p.m. on Monday evening.
