Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT, WI- A five-run first inning caused the Beloit Snappers to drop the second game of their home series to the Quad Cities River Bandits by a score of 9-1 on Sunday afternoon with 1,794 in the seats at Pohlman Field.
Sunday's loss brings Beloit's record to 63-42 (20-15 in the second half). Quad Cities improves their record to 57-46 (19-15 in the second half).
The game started off with a bang for the River Bandits, as Teoscar Hernandez (3-5, HR, RBI, 3 runs) hit the second pitch of Deyvi Jimenez's (2-1) outing over the center field wall for his 9th four-bagger of the year. Quad Cities added to their early lead with a two-run double by Rio Ruiz (3-5, 3 RBI, run). A double by Terrell Joyce plated two more for Quad Cities, pushing the score to 5-0 in just the first inning. That lead jumped to 7-0 with a sacrifice fly by Carlos Correa and a line drive single to center from Dan Gulbransen in the second.
The River Bandits tacked on another run with a double from Correa in the fourth to push across Hernandez and knock Jimenez out of the game. Quad Cities' pitcher Joe Bircher (2-1) was awarded the win as he threw career high seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits. He walked two and also struck out two.
In the top of the ninth, the River Bandits added one more to their already gaudy lead on an RBI single by Ruiz. The Snappers finally put a run on the board when Matt Olson came across the dish on a double by Nick Rickles (2-4, 1 RBI). Mitchell Lambson pitched the last two innings of the game for Quad Cities, keeping the Snappers from establishing a comeback.
The Snappers will play the last game of their homestand on Monday at 7:00 PM. Scheduled to pitch for Beloit is RHP Seth Streich (10-5, 3.78), and for Quad Cities is LHP Colton Cain (4-5, 4.26 ERA). Monday at Pohlman Field is WJVL/WCLO Monster Deal Monday, where fans can receive two general admission tickets, two hot dogs, two soft drinks, two popcorns and two adjustable hats, all for just $22. Ott Schweitzer Distributing is sponsoring 12oz drafts of Leinie's products for $1.50. Go to Snappersbaseball.com, visit the Snappers front office or call 888-SNAP-2-IT for ticket information.
