Eastlake, OH - Steve Tinoco had three hits and an RBI for the Hot Rods on Friday night, but Bowling Green (15-18, 56-47) couldn't stop its road struggles in July, losing 9-7 to the Lake County Captains on Friday night. The loss leaves the Hot Rods with a 2-12 road record for the month heading into their final two home games in July beginning Saturday night against Dayton.

Another back-and-forth affair began in the top of the first inning with Cody Rogers snapping a long homer-less drought with his seventh lead-off home run in his Hot Rods career. His 11th home run gave the Hot Rods a 1-0 lead and it was his first since a blast in Kane County on June 9.

In the bottom of the frame, the Captains began what was a common trend in the game. With two outs, they scored two runs against Enny Romero to re-take the lead at 2-0. They repeated the two-run, two-out feat in the second to build that advantage to 4-1.

The Hot Rods were able to score the next four runs of the contest. With two outs in the third, Alejandro Torres plated Steve Tinoco to cut the Hot Rods hole to 4-2. A three-run fourth inning was sparked by a lead-off home run from Phil Wunderlich - his 13th - followed by a two-run double from Nick Schwaner to give the Hot Rods a 5-4 lead.

But, just like the first inning, the lead was short-lived. Victor Mateo (10-5), in his second inning of relief, gave up three runs to Lake County. The runs scored on a wild pitch and a two-out double from Moises Montero.

Trailing 7-5 heading to the sixth, the Hot Rods grabbed another run thanks to a throwing error and a run-scoring double play. But an inning later, facing Steve Hiscock, Lake County pushed their lead to 9-6 with a pair of runs on an RBI triple and another run-scoring wild pitch.

Bowling Green began a late rally in the eighth inning, cutting the deficit to 9-7. Robi Estrada singled, took second on a groundout, and advanced to third on a base hit from Derek Dietrich. After a pitching change and a strikeout, Tinoco plated Estrada for the Hot Rods final run of the game.

Tinoco finished the game with three hits, two runs, an RBI, and one HBP. In two games in the series he was 5-7 with a double and three RBI.

The Hot Rods now return home on Saturday for the start of a seven-game home stand with the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) at 7:05 PM. Saturday night features postgame fireworks. For tickets and a complete listing of the upcoming events at Bowling Green Ballpark, visit www.bghotrods.com.
