Bandits score early, often in 11-3 win

The Quad Cities River Bandits scored three first inning runs and continued its scoring throughout the game in an 11-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs in front of 5,593 fans at Modern Woodmen Park on Friday.

Victor Sanchez (2-for-4) opened up the scoring in the first with an RBI-single to score Cody Stanley (2-for-5). Colin Walsh (1-for-5) then homered with a man on to give the Bandits an early 3-0 lead. The Bandits went on to score eight more runs on 14 hits to secure the series sweep.

Bandit starter Trevor Rosenthal (W, 5-7) went six strong innings and allowed three runs on five hits. Rosenthal struck out seven and walked three in the game.

Third baseman Packy Elkins went 3-for-4 in the game with four RBI including abases-clearing double in the fifth inning. Ronny Gil contributed with three hits and an RBI while Chris Edmondson went 1-for-2 with two walks and scored three times.

Peoria starter Luis Liria (L, 1-2) went just two innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on six hits while walking two. Liria struck out just one batter in the game.

The Bandits will open a three-game series with the Kane County Cougars Friday. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park on Lee Smith "Should be a Hall of Famer" bobblehead night.
