Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio-Patrick Leonard's two-run single with two outs in the sixth inning lifted the Bowling Green Hot Rods to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Friday night. The loss was the Dragons third straight and dropped them to five games out of first place; two and one-half games out of the wildcard slot. Dayton fell to 22-19 in the second half while first place Bowling Green improved to 27-14.
The Dragons took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. Back-to-back walks to Tanner Rahier and Brandon Dailey and a passed ball left runners at second and third, and Beau Amaral blooped a single to left to drive in both runners.
Bowling Green scored one run in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one and then took the lead in the sixth against Dragons reliever Wandy Peralta (2-7). Peralta hit the first batter of the inning and then allowed a base hit. After two strikeouts around a walk that loaded the bases, Leonard singled to right-center to give the Hot Rods the lead and close out the scoring.
The Dragons nearly tied the game in the eighth. With Jeff Gelalich at first base and two outs, Brandon Dailey ran the count to 3-2 and blooped a hit to right field near the foul line. Gelalich, running on the pitch, attempted to score on the play and was tagged out after a perfect throw to the plate by right fielder Marty Gantt. The Dragons got a one-out single from Beau Amaral in the ninth but he was stranded at first base.
The Dragons finished with eight hits. Amaral was 3 for 5 to extend his hitting streak to eight straight games. He has six straight multi-hit games. Jesse Winker had two hits.
Dragons starting pitcher Sal Romano (6-8) worked five innings and left the game with the lead. He allowing one run on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Bowling Green hit into four double plays in Romano's five innings.
Peralta allowed two runs in his only inning to absorb the loss. Alejandro Chacin tossed two scoreless innings for the Dragons.
The Dragons travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan to open a four-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Ismael Guillon (4-7, 6.06) will start for Dayton against West Michigan's Edgar De La Rosa (6-4, 6.01). The Dragons return home to open a three-game series against the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians affiliate) on Wednesday, August 7 at Fifth Third Field.
