Beloit Sky Carp News Release

CLINTON, IA- A middle inning rally by the Clinton LumberKings was enough to knock off the Beloit Snappers by a score of 7-3 on Friday night in Midwest League action at Ashford University Field.

This final game of the series puts the Snappers at a record of 64-46 (21-19 in the second half), and the win boosts the LumberKings to a record of 52-57 (19-21 in the second half).

The Snappers got on the scoreboard first, as Renato Nunez homered, a solo shot, for the seventeeth time this year in the top of the second. Nolan Sanburn started on the mound for Beloit, going two innings without giving up a run and he was relieved by Deyvi Jimenez (2-2) in the third. Clinton, as they have throughout the series, responded that inning, with Tim Lopes hitting a two run home run, his first of the year, scoring Gabriel Guerrero ahead of him.

Beloit added two more runs in the top of the fifth on an Aaron Shipman groundout, which scored Nick Rickles, and a Brett Vertigan RBI bunt single, but it wasn't enough to hold back the rallying Lumberkings.

Jordy Lara put Clinton back ahead with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 4-3. The LumberKings added three more in the sixth, as Jamodrick McGruder singled to short to score Martin Peguero, and Tyler Marlette cracked a two-run double.

Victor Sanchez (3-5) started for Clinton and held the Snappers to only three runs in six innings of work. He was relieved by George Mieses, who closed out the game for the LumberKings and picked up the save, his first of the year.

The Snappers will travel to play the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton on Saturday night, scheduled for a 7:00pm first pitch. Wisconsin will be throwing RHP Preston Gainey (4-5, 6.08 ERA), and Beloit will send RHP Seth Streich (10-6, 3.82 ERA) to the mound for Saturday night's series opener.
