
Bees Use Big Inning in Win over Kernels

BURLINGTON, Iowa - The Kernels fell 6-2 to the Burlington Bees on Friday at Community Field. The Bees recorded all of their runs and hits in the second inning for the victory. Adam Brett Walker hit his 23rd home run of the season for the Kernels in the loss.
Burlington sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning and took a 6-0 lead with five hits and one Kernels error. The first four hitters reached base, and they all came around to score. Matt Scioscia drove in a run with a RBI single. Riley Good was the first batter to be retired, but he brought in a run with a RBI groundout. Angel Rosa's two-run single made the score 4-0. Rosa later scored when Garrett Cannizaro reached on a fielding error by Kernels second baseman Joel Licon. Exicardo Cayones made the score 6-0 with a RBI groundout.
The game was delayed in the middle of the fourth inning because of rain, and neither starting pitcher returned after the delay. Tim Atherton started for the Kernels and allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits over three innings. He struck out two and walked one. Atherton took the loss, falling to 5-4 on the year. Reid Scoggins started for the Bees, pitching four scoreless innings and allowing two hits. Scoggins struck out seven and walked none.
The Kernels tallied a run in the eighth inning as Niko Goodrum singled home Jeremias Pineda, cutting the Bees lead to 6-1. Adam Brett Walker nailed his 23rd home run of the season in the ninth inning, making the score 6-2.
Alex Muren pitched three scoreless innings in relief for the Kernels, allowing no hits. He struck out four and walked none. Hudson Boyd added two scoreless innings, also allowing no hits. He struck out two and walked one.
Joey Krehbiel (5-5) picked up the win in four innings of relief. He allowed one run on three hits while striking out five and walking none. Christopher O'Grady pitched one inning, allowing one run on one hit.
