Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-18) dropped two one-run games to the Great Lakes Loons (16-29) during Thursday's doubleheader, falling 4-3 and 1-0 at Bowling Green Ballpark. Tommy Coyle combined for three hits and a double in the two games, and Dylan Floro was impressive in his six innings efficient innings of one-run ball in the second game. The Hot Rods have now lost three straight games, tying their longest losing streak of the season.
The two teams played a scoreless 1.5 innings on Wednesday night before the rains came. Once the Hot Rods and Loons resumed the action in the bottom of the second on Thursday, the Hot Rods jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, using three walks and a single to do so. However, Loons starter Miguel Sulbaran forced the Hot Rods to strand the bases loaded in the inning.
In the top of the third inning, the Loons took a 3-1 lead when they brought seven men to the plate against Hot Rods reliever Brandon Henderson. After three infield singles, Tyler Ogle doubled to deep centerfield to clear the bases.
The Hot Rods then chipped away at the Loons lead with one run in the third and fifth innings. Ryan Dunn drove home the run in the third inning with a two-out double, and Marty Gantt tied the score with a sacrifice fly to left field.
In the top of the sixth inning, Jeremy Rathjen began the frame with a double. Rathjen later scored to give the Loons a 4-3 lead. The Hot Rods were retired in order over the final two innings at the plate, losing the game to Great Lakes.
In the second contest, a Loons first-inning run off Dylan Floro stood as enough in another tight bout between these two teams. The Hot Rods stranded five runners in the loss and were 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
Games three and four of this four-game series will take place as a doubleheader on Friday evening at Bowling Green Ballpark at 5:00 PM CDT. Two seven-inning contests will take place. Tune in to the game on 1340 "The Ticket" WBGN-AM and online at 1340WBGN.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show begins at 4:45 PM CDT.
The Hot Rods will send LHP Sean Bierman (2-1, 1.54) to the mound in game one to oppose the Loons RHP Jharel Cotton (1-3, 3.96). Both teams have yet to name starting pitchers for game two.
The first 500 fans on Great Clips Night on Friday will receive a Limited Edition Hot Rods Five-Year Logo T-Shirt. For more information and to secure your tickets, call the Hot Rods at (270) 901-2121 or visit BGHotRods.com.
