
Lansing Extends Streak to 8 Games

Lake County Captains News Release
(Lansing, MI) - Dwight Smith Jr. put the game away with an RBI single in the seventh inning, that scored two runners, and extended the Lansing Lugnut lead to 5-0. Lansing (21-23) defeated the Captains (15-29) by a 6-1 score. The Captains have lost four straight games and the Lugnuts have won eight in a row.
In the first inning, Lansing scored three runs to take the early lead. Lake County made two errors and Kevin Patterson hit a two run homerun and the score was 3-0. Patterson's blast was the third first inning homer the Captains allowed in the series. It was his fifth homer of the season.
The Lugnuts got another run on an RBI ground out in the eighth inning to make the score 6-0. Lake County avoided the shutout on an RBI double by LeVon Washington. Washington finished with three hits and was on base five times. The final was 6-1.
LHP Ryan Merritt (2-4) started for the Captains. Merritt was saddled with the loss. Ryan pitched six innings, allowing four hits, three runs, two earned runs, one walk and four strikeouts. Felix Sterling allowed one hit and two unearned runs. Luis Head pitched the ninth and gave up one unearned run.
The Lugnuts sent LHP Daniel Norris (0-3) to the mound to start the game. Norris did not qualify for the win. Norris pitched four innings, he allowed three hits, and walked two. He struck out a career high ten batters. Kramer Champlin (2-1) got the win. Champlin pitched four innings and allowed four hits while striking out four. The res of the bullpen allowed just one run.
Lake County will enjoy an off day Friday and will begin a six game home stand on Saturday Night. Saturday's game will be followed by a Saturday Night Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Monreal Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Lake County will send RHP Michael Peoples (1-2, 3.08) to the mound to start the ballgame. West Michigan will counter with RHP Yorfrank Lopez (4-2, 4.33) First Pitch will be at 6:30 PM.
