Dayton, Ohio.-The Dayton Dragons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to overcome a 6-5 deficit, defeating the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-6 on Thursday night. The win was the Dragons sixth in their last seven games. They will try for their first series sweep of the 2013 season on Friday night after winning the first two games of the set.

Trailing 6-5 in the eighth, Dayton's Joe Hudson lined a double to the left field corner with one out, and Zach Vincej followed with a single up the middle to drive in Hudson and tie the game. One batter later, Joe Terry hit a fly ball toward the left field line. West Michigan left fielder Danry Vazquez raced in but could not make the catch and it bounced behind him, allowing Vincej to score from first base with the tie-breaking run. Dragons reliever Sean Lucas pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fifth save of the season and second in the last two nights.

The Dragons fell behind 3-0 over the first two innings before Tanner Rahier belted a solo home run in the third to make it 3-1. It was Rahier's fifth homer of the year. The Dragons added another run in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Seth Mejias-Brean to make it 3-2. Then in the fifth, Dayton scored three runs to take a 5-3 lead. Terry's RBI single tied the game. Then with Beau Amaral and third and Terry at second and one out, Jeff Gelalich hit a ground ball to third. West Michigan's Mario Martinez fielded the ball and threw home, but as Amaral collided with Whitecaps catcher Bennett Pickar, the ball, and Pickar's glove, were knocked free. Amaral and Terry both scored on the play.

West Michigan scored two runs in the sixth to tie the score and took the lead in the top of the eighth on Martinez's home run down the right field line, setting the stage for the Dragons comeback efforts in the bottom of the inning.

Dragons starting pitcher Drew Cisco tossed five and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on 11 hits with one walk and six strikeouts. Wandy Peralta followed Cisco and worked one inning, allowing no runs with a walk and three strikeouts. Ben Klimesh (2-0) earned the win, going one and one-third and allowing two hits and one run with one strikeout. Lucas pitched the ninth, getting two strikeouts.

The Dragons improved to 19-27 with the win while West Michigan fell to 20-24.

The Dragons collected seven hits. Terry went 2 for 4 with two runs batted in. Hudson had a double, two walks, and two runs scored.
