Burlington Bees News Release
Gaby Guerrero delivered a walk-off single to give the Clinton Lumberkings a 6-5 victory over the Burlington Bees on Thursday night at Ashford University Field.
The Bees (16-25) entered Thursday night's game with a three-game winning streak, but that streak came to an end when Gaby Guerrero singled home Patrick Kivlehan with two outs in the ninth. Reid Scoggins (0-2) allowed Kivlehan to reach on a single to start the inning. Kivlehan went to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a ground out. With two outs, Guerrero hit a ground ball to short that Chance Ross bobbled and his throw to first was late, allowing the Lumberkings (23-22) to pick up the win.
It was a back and forth game that saw Clinton take an early 2-0 lead after one inning against Jake Boyd. Guillermo Pimentel singled home Dario Pizzano and Pimentel later scored on a single from Jordy Lara.
Michael Bolaski put the Bees on the board with his first home run of the year in the top of the second. Unfortunately, Clinton answered right back in the bottom of the inning on an infield single from Pizzano that scored Taylor Ard.
Burlington scored one run in the third and took the lead in the fourth, getting three runs against Scott DeCecco. Ross singled home a run and Kevin Moesquit hit a two-run double to put the Bees up 5-3 after three and a half innings.
Clinton scored one run in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie the game.
This game had a Burlington win written all over it, but the team could not take advantage with men in scoring position. The Bees loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth and could not score, and then put men at second and third with one out in both the seventh and eighth innings, but did not bring home a run. Grady Wood (2-1) delivered 2.2 innings out of the bullpen to earn the win, quieting the Bees' rally in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Burlington and Clinton will battle in the rubber match of the series on Friday night. Aaron Newcomb will take the ball for Burlington against Dylan Unsworth. First pitch will be at 6:30 p.m. You can listen to the game on News Radio 1490 KBUR or gobees.com.
