Hot Rods Drop Opener In Lansing 7-1
April 17, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Lansing, MI - Fresh of an 11-inning affair on Friday night, the Hot Rods dropped the opener of their six game road trip, 7-0, to the Lansing Lugnuts (4-6) at Cooley Law School Stadium. Kyle Lobstein (0-1) took the loss allowing his first runs of the season in his first road start.
Lansing wasted little time getting to the left-handed Lobstein, scoring two runs in the first inning. Kenny Wilson began the inning with a triple to deep right field. He scored a few pitches later on a sacrifice fly from Oliver Dominguez to give the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.
The inning continued with the next batter, Mark Sobolewski, who delivered a double into the gap in left-center field, the first of three hits on the game for the Lansing third baseman. He eventually took third on a wild pitch, scoring immediately after on a single to left field by Brad Glenn, bumping the lead to 2-0.
Lansing added a run in the third on a two-out single from Chris Hopkins. He stole second and then scored on a base hit by Wilson, adding another run to make it 4-0.
Lobstein would get out of the fourth 1-2-3, but he was finished at that point. He surrendered a career-high seven hits, allowing four earned runs, which ties a career high. Lobstein didn't walk anyone while striking our four.
Meanwhile, Lansing starter Ryan Tepera (1-0) was virtually untouchable, going seven shutout innings on just three hits. He walked one and struck out four, and had two stretches where he retired at least eight consecutive Hot Rods. Bowling Green avoided its first shutout of the season by scoring a solo run in the ninth inning. Chris Murrill led off with a double, his second of two base hits on the day. He eventually came around on a groundout by DH Eligio Sonoqui, breaking up the shutout opportunity.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 PM CDT. RHP Alexander Colome (0-1, 6.00) takes the ball against Lansing RHP Ryan Shopshire (0-0, 4.09). You can follow the action with Tom Gauthier beginning at 12:50 PM CDT on 1340 WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
