River Bandits Stay Perfect At Home, Take Game One With Rattlers
April 17, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits took game one of a three game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 9-5 and stay a perfect 4-0 at home.
The River Bandits took advantage of five defensive miscues by the Timber Rattlers and scored nine runs on 11 hits in the contest. Offensively, the Bandits kept up their offensive output of the last two nights. Devin Shepherd was the only Bandit without a hit in the match up, but the rest of the lineup made up for it. Ryde Rodriguez led the way having his first multi-hit game of the year including a two-run homer, with four runs scored and two RBI. Niko Vasquez and Ryan Jackson each delivered a double on a pair of hits and swiped a bag. D'Marcus Ingram chipped in a double and he drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
Quad Cities only used two pitchers on the night. Dan Calhoun got his first start of 2010 and went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs without walking a batter. Calhoun fanned five and gave way to Joe Kelly in the fifth. Kelly (2-0) made his first appearance out of the bullpen for the River Bandits and picked up his second win of the season. Kelly allowed just one run in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out two and walked one on the hill. Eric Arnett (0-2) was saddled with his second loss of the season, giving up eight runs, five earned, in just 3.1 innings on the mound.
The Bandits are back in action Sunday afternoon, as they take on the Timber Rattlers in an afternoon match up. Quad Cities will send right hander Scott Schneider to the hill to take on righty Kyle Heckathorn. It is another U.S. Bank Family Sunday, Lucky Pawz Dog Day of Summer and kids can run the bases after the game thanks to Monkey Joes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 at Modern Woodmen Park.
UP NEXT: Though baseball season has bloomed, Modern Woodmen Park provides a great special events venue while the River Bandits are on the road during the 2010 season.
