Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Ryan Tepera pitched seven shutout innings, limiting the Bowling Green Hot Rods (3-7) to just three singles, as the Lansing Lugnuts (4-6) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-1 victory on Saturday afternoon on Jackson Field.
After allowing three runs in 3 1/3 innings in his 2010 debut, Tepera (1-0) was sharp against the Hot Rods. The right-hander struck out four while allowing only a Chris Murrill single in the first inning, a Kyle Spraker single in the second, and Mayo Acosta single in the fifth. His victory was the first of the season for a Lugnuts starting pitcher.
Mark Sobolewski went 3-for-3 with two doubles to lead the offensive attack against Bowling Green starter Kyle Lobstein (0-1) and two relievers.
Kevin Nolan added a two-run double and Kenny Wilson scored a pair of runs for the Lugnuts, who put at least one runner on base in seven of their eight at-bats.
Nestor Molina pitched a perfect eighth and Scott Gracey allowed a run in the ninth, locking up the victory.
The Lugnuts and Hot Rods play the second game of their three-game series at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday at Cooley Law School Stadium. Right-hander Ryan Shopshire (0-0, 4.09) starts for the Nuts against Bowling Green right-hander Alexander Colome (0-1, 6.00).
