Bees Break Up No-No In 9th, Fall 9-0 To Wisconsin

Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (April 16, 2010) - Hilton Richardson came to the plate for the Burlington Bees in the ninth inning on Friday night with a chance to make the wrong kind of history.
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers pitchers Jake Odorizzi (W, 1-0) and Damon Krestalude (S, 1) had held the Bees without a hit for the first eight and two-thirds innings of their 9-0 win. The last out proved to be the hardest, as Richardson poked a double just inside the third base bag to deny the Wisconsin staff in their historic quest.
The Bees have not been held hitless in a nine-inning game since August 3, 1996, when Jim Sak and Todd Bussa of Clinton combined for a 3-0 gem. Wisconsin has not thrown a no-hitter since Derrick Van Dusen turned the trick on August 27, 2001.
Prior to the hit, only two Bees had even reached base. Wil Myers was hit by a pitch in the fourth, and Carlo Testa drew a walk in the fifth.
Odorizzi dazzled in his five innings on the hill, striking out eight. His counterpart, Matt Mitchell (L, 0-2), battled his control for much of the night, allowing seven hits and walking four as four Wisconsin runs crossed the plate in four innings.
Designated hitter Pete Fatse led the Timber Rattler attack with a 3-for-4 night with a two-run single in the third, a towering home run in the seventh, and five runs batted in.
The Bees hit the road for a six-game road trip with stops in Peoria and Clinton before returning home to take on Cedar Rapids on Friday. Catch the Casebine Community Credit Union Pregame Show tomorrow at 12:40 before the Bees take on the Chiefs from Peoria's O'Brien Field at 1:00. Nick Devlin will have the call on News Radio 1490 KBUR.
