Hot Rods Defeat Cubs 6-0, Win Fourth in a Row

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods earned win number 73 on the season, defeating the South Bend Cubs tonight 6-0 at Bowling Green Ballpark. RHP Paul Campbell earned his second straight shutout win at home, improving to 2-0 with the Hot Rods.

In the first inning, the Hot Rods got started early. 2B Vidal Brujan led off with a triple to right field. SS Taylor Walls followed with a walk and then stole second. Two batters later, LF Moises Gomez scored them both on a single, making it 2-0 Hot Rods. 3B Trey Hair followed the Gomez knock with an RBI single of his own, and Bowling Green led 3-0.

Brujan came up in the fifth inning after singling in his second at-bat and hit a home run to right field, making it 4-0 Hot Rods.

In the sixth, DH Zach Rutherford worked a one out walk and came around to score on a sac fly from 1B Devin Davis, and it was 5-0 Bowling Green.

Brujan finished the scoring when he reached on an error in the seventh and scored two batters later on a single from CF Carl Chester.

Campbell earned the win for the Hot Rods. He threw six innings, allowing three hits and two walks, striking out three. He has allowed just three runs in 16 and two-thirds innings as a Hot Rod.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon at 2:05pm Central. Bowling Green will send RHP J.D. Busfield (0-0, 0.00) to the hill. South Bend will counter with RHP Brendan King (3-5, 3.65).
