Today's Game : The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the West Michigan Whitecaps (affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) in the first game of a three-game series. This is game four of a 13-game, 14-day road trip for the Dragons. Dragons Record to Date on the Trip: 1-2.

Season Series: West Michigan 4, Dayton 2. At West Michigan: Whitecaps 3, Dragons 0. Current Series: First meeting.

Last Game : Friday: Fort Wayne 5, Dayton 2. TinCaps starting pitcher Osvaldo Hernandez did not allow a hit until the seventh inning and Fort Wayne withstood a Dragons comeback effort to win the series. The Dragons trailed 3-0 before scoring two runs in the seventh to pull within one, but they had just one hit the rest of the night. The Dragons finished with four hits including two by Alejo Lopez.

Playoff Chase : The Dragons must finish in the top two among eligible teams in the East Division in the Second Half (six teams competing; Bowling Green and Lansing ineligible). The Dragons currently are third in the Second Half race, one-half game behind #2 seed Fort Wayne. The top five teams in the Second Half race are separated by just three games.

2018 Team Notes

Despite going 4 for 31 last night, the Dragons are batting .312 (68 for 218) as a team over their last six games, averaging 5.2 runs per game. They batted .324 in the four-game series with Lansing ending Tuesday, their highest average in a series in 2018. The Dragons had not hit .300 or higher in any series since May 18-20 vs. Great Lakes, when they hit .320. They hit .278 in the series at Fort Wayne that ended last night. The Dragons are batting .343 with men in scoring position over the last six games, going 23 for 67. The Dragons have recorded exactly 16 hits in two of their last six games. Previously, they had collected more than 14 hits in only one game since May 20. They had at least 10 hits in five straight games prior to last night.

2018 Individual Notes

Alejo Lopez over his last 18 games: 25 for 64, .391, to raise his average from .247 to .312. He has a seven-game hitting streak, going 13 for 30 (.433). Hendrik Clementina over his last seven games: 10 for 27 (.370) with three home runs, three doubles, and seven RBI. Jose Garcia over his last seven games: 11 for 30, .367, to raise his average from .221 to .232. He is batting .272 in the second half after hitting .202 in the first half. J.D. Williams has a five-game hitting streak, going 9 for 18, .500, to raise his average from .203 to .261. Patrick McGuff in his four starts with the Dragons: 20.1 IP, 13 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 7 BB, 16 SO, 2.66 ERA (4 of the 6 earned runs were inherited runners).

Transactions: Starting pitcher Hunter Greene will be placed on this disabled list with a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. He will not pitch for Dayton again in 2018. Starting pitcher Jared Solomon will be promoted to Dayton from Billings to replace Greene in the rotation.
