Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The losing streak reached four for the Clinton LumberKings on Saturday night at Ashford University Field as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers coasted to a 9-2 win. Joseph Rosa homered for Clinton (19-22, 58-53) but it was not enough to overcome the crooked numbers by the Timber Rattlers (20-21, 51-59) offense.
Clinton starter Ryne Inman worked around trouble in the first and second innings before surrendering the game's first run in the top of the third. Without the benefit of a hit, Wisconsin struck first. Zach Clark drew a one out walk, stole second, and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Juan Camacho and then scored on a Tristen Lutz sacrifice fly to left.
The LumberKings committed four errors in the game to make four of the nine runs allowed by Clinton pitching unearned.
In the top of the fourth, Wisconsin added to their lead with a two-run home run from Eddie Silva. The home run was his first of the season and following the end of the inning Inman (3-8) was pulled from the game.
The Timber Rattlers pulled away in the top of the fifth with a four-run inning. Eight men came to the plate for Wisconsin to score their four runs with help from three LumberKings errors in the inning.
Christian Taugner started for Wisconsin and was sharp over his seven innings of work. In his final inning out, the seventh, he allowed his only run of the night on a double by Zach Scott that turned into a run on a Juan Comacho RBI single to right.
Taugner (7-7) earned his first win of the season against the LumberKings after taking two losses from them in April. He struck out seven while walking none and holding Clinton to just five hits.
Rosa capped the scoring on the night with his third home run of the season in the bottom of the ninth. The home run was his first since May 25th in Cedar Rapids, ending his longest home run draught of the season.
The LumberKings will meet the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers for the second and third games of their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. Clinton will throw left-hander Steven Moyers (3-0, 3.25) in game one and righty Clay Chandler (6-2, 3.65) while the Timber Rattlers will tap righty Nelson Hernandez (10-6 4.53) in game one and right-handed pitcher JT Hintzen (2-0, 2.70) in game two. Game one's scheduled first pitch is 12:00 PM with the second game to follow approximately 30 minutes following the final out in game one. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio ap at 11:45 AM with the pregame show.
Sundays are "Family Funday Sundays" at Ashford University. Kids can take part in free face painting, balloon artists, and postgame kids run the bases courtesy of the Children's Discovery Center. A ticket to one game is good for both. Residents of Fulton and Morrison see your local participating businesses for a special offer on tickets.
