Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO - Back-to-back home runs by A.J. Reed and Jon Kemmer in the seventh inning Sunday night sealed Corpus Christi's 5-2 victory over the RoughRiders at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks (16-14, 64-36) were backed by a strong start from Josh Hader, making his return to the club after pitching for Team USA at the Pan Am Games. Hader held Frisco to a pair of baserunners over four innings of work, and retired the last seven men he faced. He struck out six and walked one.

Ruben Alaniz (3-2) entered in the fifth and kept the Riders off the board through his first two frames. Luis Mendez opened the eighth with a double and later scored via a sac fly by Ryan Cordell.

Hooks lefty Chris Cotton closed the game, retiring all four men he faced for his fourth save.

Corpus Christi jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. Teoscar Hernandez notched a single and stole second base. With two outs, Reed punched a line drive into centerfield, plating Hernandez.

The Riders tied the game in the second and Jose Leclerc managed to keep the Hooks off the board until his exit in the fifth. Corpus Christi, facing Juan Grullon (0-1), staged runners at first and second for Kemmer, who ripped an RBI double over the head of the centerfielder Cordell. The Hooks pushed another run across when, with the bases loaded, Danry Vasquez bounced into a force play at second base.

The knockout punches came with one away in the seventh. Reed's solo shot to right field off Lendy Castillo put the Hooks in front 4-1. Kemmer was next and blistered a 3-1 pitch off the batter's eye in centerfield.

Corpus Christi has hit 19 home runs in the last 10 games.

The Hooks return to Whataburger Field Monday night for a three-game set against San Antonio. Brian Holmes (4-4, 3.83) is slated to pitch for the Hooks. The Missions will send Justin Hancock (6-6, 3.30) to the hill. First pitch 7:05.
