Cody Reed Named Texas League Pitcher of the Week

July 27, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - Tom Kayser, the Texas League President, announced the Texas League Player and Pitcher of the Week honors today for the week of July 20 through July 26, 2015, awarding former Northwest Arkansas Naturals starting pitcher Cody Reed his first career Texas League honor.

Reed made one start for Northwest Arkansas last week and it was at Arvest Ballpark on Tuesday, July 21 against the Tulsa Drillers. The former second round pick by the Royals in the 2013 draft fired seven scoreless innings against the Drillers in a 1-0 win. The left-hander limited the Tulsa offense to two hits, one walk, while striking out seven in 71 pitches.

With the victory, Reed (2-2 3.45 ERA) earned his second win of the season for the Naturals and first since he made his debut at Arvest Ballpark on June 28th where he worked six innings of one run ball. On the season, he improved his record to 2-0 against Tulsa with 13.0 total innings of one run ball while recording 12 strikeouts to only six hits and four walks.

Yesterday the Kansas City Royals completed a trade that sent Cody Reed, along with former Naturals' left-handed pitchers Brandon Finnegan and John Lamb to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for right-handed pitcher Johnny Cueto and cash considerations.

Reed is the fourth player to earn Texas League Weekly honors for the Naturals in 2015, and it marks the fifth time this season that the Naturals have earned the honor. Naturals infielder Alex Liddi earned the Texas League Player of the Week honor for June 29 - July 5, former first baseman Balbino Fuenmayor took home Texas League Player of the Week twice, while former starting pitcher Miguel Almonte was Texas League Pitcher of the Week from May 11 - May 17.

Northwest Arkansas begins a three game series against the Arkansas Travelers tonight in North Little Rock. RHP Christian Binford (4-4, 4.72 ERA) gets the ball for the Naturals and he will be opposed by LHP Michael Antonini (1-1, 7.20 ERA) of the Travelers for a 7:10 p.m. first pitch from Dickey-Stephens Park. Tune in to the Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show with Benjamin Kelly set to hit the airwaves at 6:55 p.m. on KQSM 92.1 - The Ticket.

The first half North Division Champions will return home on Thursday, July 30 to begin a seven game homestand at Arvest Ballpark at 7:05 p.m. for Christmas in July featuring Buck Night on Thirsty Thursday presented by Foghorn's.
