Towey, Bemboom Clutch in 5th-Straight Win

July 27, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Arkansas Travelers News Release

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers edged the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 4-3 on Monday night at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Arkansas came back from a 2-0 deficit in the second to take the lead 3-2, and in a 3-3 game in the seventh the Travs went back ahead 4-3 with both go-ahead RBIs produced by C Anthony Bemboom.

After The Naturals scored their two runs in the second, DH Raywilly Gomez led off the bottom of the frame with a single. SS Eric Stamets drew a one-out walk to put runners on first and second with one out and RF Cal Towey blasted a game-tying two-run triple over RF Jorge Bonifacio's head. Bemboom put the Travs ahead 3-2 with a sacrifice fly to right-center.

Northwest Arkansas tied the game in the fifth after 1B Frank Schwindel was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, 2B Kenny Diekroeger hit a Baltimore-chop double over 3B Drew Maggi's head and DH Gabriel Noriega lined a ball off starter LHP Mike Antonini which brought the tying run home and put runners on the corners with nobody out. But, Antonini then worked out of the major jam by striking out SS Raul Mondesi for the first out, and getting CF Bubba Starling to strike out with Noriega in motion - Starling was called for batter's interference to end the frame and strand the go-ahead run at third.

Arkansas took the 4-3 lead in the seventh. With two outs and nobody on, Towey drew a walk and Bemboom doubled down the right field line to put the Travs up for good.

Antonini worked the five innings and allowed three runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

RHP Austin Wood (W, 7-4) picked up the victory with two scoreless innings in relief of Antonini. Wood surrendered two hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

RHP Kyle Winkler earned his third hold with Travs thanks to a 1-2-3 eighth, and RHP Danny Reynolds (S, 5) tossed a perfect ninth with two strikeouts to close out the game.

With the win, Arkansas won its fifth game in a row and improved to 53-47 on the season. The Travs took sole possession of first place in the Texas League North second half standings (17-14) with a Springfield loss.

Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas will continue the three-game series on Tuesday. RHP Michael Brady (5-4, 2.96) will toe the rubber for the Travs and will be opposed by LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (5-6, 3.63). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
