(Rochester, MN) - The Honkers could not complete the two-game sweep of the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Monday night as they fell by a final score of 10-5 in Rochester, MN.
The Border Cats got on the board early with three runs in the top of the first on three hits including a leadoff solo shot by right fielder Andrew Ayers (Sacramento State).
The Honkers tied it 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run off the bat of left fielder Justin Parr (Illinois). The long ball was Parr's fifth of the season and it extended his hitting streak to 19 games. The Chillicothe, IL native beat out an infield single in the eighth as well to finished the night 2 for 4 with a run and three RBIs.
The Border Cats plated three more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to go ahead 7-3.
Rochester starter Jared Miller (Vanderbilt) labored through 5.0 innings of work allowing seven total runs (six earned) on eight hits and a walk. Miller was handed the loss to move his record to 3-4 for the season.
A Ben Lahn (Lamar CC) RBI single in the bottom half of the sixth made it 7-4, but the Thunder Bay offense continued to respond and wound up with the 10-5 victory over the Honkers.
Center fielder Dakota Smith (Kansas) finished the night 2 for 4 out of the Rochester leadoff spot.
The Honkers will take the day off tomorrow before traveling to Alexandria, MN for the first of a three-game set with the Beetles on Wednesday, August 8th.
Starting on the mound for the Honkers in that series opener will be lefty Matt Kent (Texas A&M). Kent is 3-5 with a 2.89 ERA in 10 starts. In his last outing against Alexandria on June 21st, Kent tossed 7.0 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits to earn his second win of the summer.
Starting for the Beetles will be left hander Shawn Reisgraf (St. Cloud State). Reidgraf is 2-4 in 11 games with an 8.34 ERA.
The Honkers will be back home on Saturday, August 11th for a two-game series with the St. Cloud Rox.
