Bullfrogs Win Back-To-Back Games for First Time Since Early July
August 6, 2012 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Two RBI doubles from leadoff hitter Collin Shaw propelled the Bullfrogs to a 5-2 victory over the Bombers, and Green Bay won back-to-back games for the first time since July 4th and 5th.
The Bombers struck first in the third inning with a run on a Dan Rockett sacrifice fly plating AJ Spanel to give Battle Creek a 1-0 lead.
The Bullfrogs responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Collin Shaw plated Alex Abrams all the way from first with what was just his fifth double of the season, and the game was knotted at 1-1.
The Bombers regained the lead in the top of the fourth. An RBI single from Dillon Moyer gave Battle Creek a 2-1 lead.
Green Bay rallied in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Shaw's second single of the game scored Nick Stein from second base for the first run of the inning. A batter later, Brian Celsi grounded out to second base but drove home Alex Abrams from third to give Green Bay the lead, 3-2.
The game was scoreless until the Bullfrogs added two more in the bottom of the eighth. Billy Moon scored Celsi and David Armendariz to make the lead 5-2 heading to the ninth.
Alex Abrams, who also pitched a scoreless eighth, came out for the save in the ninth inning. He allowed one base runner on a two-out double to Moyer, but stranded him there to claim the Bullfrogs victory.
The win went to Dylan Mendoza (1-1), who allowed two earned runs through 5.2 innings of work. Mac Acker pitched 1.1 scoreless, and Abrams closed out the game with two scoreless.
The Bullfrogs hit the road Tuesday for a three game series in Eau Claire. First pitch for all three games will be at 6:35. You can go to www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to watch or listen live.
The Bullfrogs return home to host the La Crosse Loggers on Friday in what will be the final home series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Join us at Joannes Stadium for an exciting Friday night. It will be Pink in the Park night. The Bullfrogs will wear pink jerseys to raise awareness for breast cancer.
