
Honkers Complete Sweep of Border Cats on Tuesday with Shutout

(Rochester, Minn.)-Nick Gruener (Harvard) and Brandon Stennis (Doane College) completely shut down the Thunder Bay Border Cats in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, helping the Honkers win again in Thunder Bay, 4-0.
Gruener threw three innings and pitched around three walks, allowing just one hit. Stennis was just as hard to hit; he pitched four innings giving up just one hit and allowed just one walk en route to his first win of the season. The two combined to strike out eight Border Cats in the seven-inning contest.
Apart from the phenomenal pitching, the Honkers smacked 13 hits and scored four runs - two of which came off the bat of Casey Fletcher (Illinois). Fletcher collected his two RBIs on three hits - a double clanging off the base of the right center field fence in the 3rd inning and a hard single in the 4th inning.
Eight out of the nine Honkers in the starting lineup earned a hit in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader. In an all-around effort, the Honkers allowed two hits, committed no errors and garnered 13 hits to improve to 6-2 on the season after sweeping the Border Cats in Thunder Bay on Tuesday, winning their third straight. Tomorrow, the Honkers will play the Mankato MoonDogs in Mankato before making a brief pit stop in Rochester to finish their two-game series with Mankato at 7:05 p.m. After Thursday's home game, the Honkers will travel back to Duluth for another two-game series with the Huskies and then back to Rochester Sunday and Monday for a two-game series with the MoonDogs. Sunday's game will mark the first day game Mayo Field will host this summer, slated for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch.
