Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Eau Claire, Wis. - The Alexandria Blue Anchors dropped another close contest as they fell to the Eau Claire Express Monday evening 3-2 at Carson Park. The Anchors first-half record is now 1-6.
In the top of the fourth, the Blue Anchors pushed a run across against Ian Doughty. Ryan Busch hit a single to begin the inning and he stole second. A wild pitch moved him to third and Craig Nenning brought him home by grounding out to shortstop and Alexandria was ahead 1-0.
The lead didn't last long. In the bottom of the fourth, Tyler Hermann led off with a double against Jason Zgardowski and Hermann went to third on a ground out to first. Brian Sicher hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Hermann and knotting the game at one.
Ryan Boelter came on in relief to start the seventh and he was greeted with a one-out double from Aaron Gretz. Two wild pitches by Boelter allowed Gretz to score and give the Anchors a 2-1 lead.
Eau Claire answered in the bottom of the seventh. Brady Burzynski walked with one out and went to second on a Mike Barajas single. A fielder's choice off the bat of Tyler Jones erased Barajas on the bases but with runners on the corners and two outs, a wild pitch scored Burzynski to even the game at two. With Jones at second, a single to left by Hermann scored Jones and the Express gained the lead and eventually won 3-2.
Zgardowski (0-1) finished with 6.2 innings pitched and three runs allowed on eight hits and three walks with three stikeouts. Robbie Mouton pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings giving up a hit and a walk.
