Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release

Battle Creek, MIch.-The Battle Creek Bombers (3-5) jumped out to a quick lead on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (2-6) and never relinquished as they swept the two game series at C.O. Brown Stadium by a score of 7-3. The 10 am start time was a quick turnaround for both teams after they played 11 innings the night before. The Bombers looked like they had more than enough rest as they chased Rafters ' starter Isaac Behme (Webster) after 3.1 innings touching him up for 7 runs.

The Rafters had their opportunities all throughout the game as they left 11 men on base in the loss. Wisconsin Rapids never could get that timely hit until the 5th when Ryan Burns (Virginia Tech) laced an RBI double. Burns had a strong day as he went 3-5 with two RBI ' s.

Wisconsin Rapids also committed four errors as they lost their fourth consecutive game, all in the state of Michigan. Tuesday ' s contest was the last of a five game road trip for the Rafters. It began with a victory over the Woodchucks last Friday, but Kalamazoo and Battle Creek each swept a two game series vs. Wisconsin Rapids who head home for two game vs. La Crosse. Monday and Tuesday ' s games were the first two wins at home for the Bombers, whose offense exploded for 21 combined hits over the two games.

Zac Carlson (UW-Stout) came on in relief of Behme and did a great job of shutting the door on the Bombers. Carlson recovered from a rough outing vs. Kalamazoo by going 3.2 IP of shutout ball. It was too little too late for Wisconsin Rapids as the deficit was too much to overcome.
