Bullfrogs Late Rally Earns Series Split

Duluth, Minn. - Green Bay's first afternoon game was another up and down contest in Duluth. The Bullfrogs won the roller-coaster affair, 6-3, to split the series and stay within one game of first place in the NWL South.

The Bullfrogs led off the scoring when Ivan Vieitez came around to score after a throwing error by Huskies Pitcher Dylan Barrow. Barrow fielded a slow rolling ground ball to the right side of the mound, before spinning and tossing the ball out of the reach of the first baseman.

Duluth came right back in the bottom of the frame. Mac James, back in the lineup after getting a day of rest yesterday, roped a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Huskies an early lead. It was James's first home run of the 2014 season and the second total home run for Duluth. The Huskies mounted a two-out rally in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 3-1, with a run scoring on a wild pitch from Harrison.

Dylan Barrow was very effective on the mound for the Huskies, but exited the game in the fifth inning due to high pitch count. Barrow went 4.2 innings allowing one run to score on an error he committed. He also struck out six, while only allowing four hits and two walks. Jordan Deal recorded the final out in the fifth.

Josh McLaney entered the game in the sixth and was immediately hit hard. A pair of two-out singles by Koziol and Soteropulos started a rally. Next, James threw a wild snap-throw behind the runner at first from, allowing Koziol to score on the error. Dane Hutcheon came through with a base hit to the tie the game in the sixth.

Ryan Agnitsch was called upon to pitch the seventh for the Huskies. After a scoreless seventh, he ran into trouble in the eighth, allowing a leadoff double to Soteropulos, then throwing a wild pitch and walking Jacobson. Kevin Folman came on to replace him, when the game spun of control for Duluth.

Folman walked Hutcheon and Matthew de la Rosa, forcing in a run. Matt Beaty then hit a two-run double to center, making it a 6-3 score. After a Ritchie walk, Folman struck out Vieitez and retired Long via a fly-out, and struck out Koziol to end the inning.

Garrett Harrison pitched another solid outing in his second opportunity this season. Harrison went five strong, allowing three runs and just four hits while striking out five. He did run into some trouble with his control, however, allowing six to reach on walks.

Dan Becks pitched in his first outing of the season, relieving Harrison in the sixth with a perfect inning. Matt Sabel pitched the seventh, allowing a leadoff double to Alex Greene. Sabel pitched his way out of the jam, striking out James with 2 outs and Greene on third. Sabel ran into problems again in the eighth, but Grayson Pratt came in to end the threat. Pratt pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the five-out save.

Matt Sabel earned the victory, the loss is charged to Ryan Agnitsch. Once again, Pratt earned the save.

Tomorrow, the Bullfrogs return home to host Kalamazoo. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
