Honkers' Bats Go Silent Again in 5-1 Loss
July 5, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Rochester Honkers News Release
The Rochester Honkers (18-18) (0-2) dropped their second consecutive game in the second half of the Northwoods League season in a 5-1 loss to the La Crosse Loggers (15-21) (2-0). The defeat dropped The Flock to .500 on the season and extended the Loggers winning streak to four games.
La Crosse was led by a fantastic outing from starting pitcher Jake Gebb (UC Riverside) (1-0). The southpaw allowed just one run in eight innings, throwing 110 pitches to a Honkers lineup that has now scored just three runs over their last two games.
The home team, playing in front of a spirited crowd at Carson Park, opened the scoring against Daniel Willie (Montreat College) (0-1) with a RBI groundout from Justin DeCriscio (San Diego). They would add two more in the next frame on back to back RBI base knocks from Dylan King (LSU) and Jackson Cobb (Kansas).
Willie got his first loss of the season, despite going at least six innings for his third consecutive start. The Loggers made it 5-0 in the seventh inning off of Hayden Hable (Southern Arkansas). Rochester scored one run but left two men on base in the eighth inning as Gebb exited to a raucous standing ovation after one of the best starts in the Northwoods League all season long.
The Rochester Honkers will travel to Thunder Bay, Ontario to take on the Thunder Bay Border Cats tomorrow for the first of four games north of the border. Scheduled first pitch time is 5:35 p.m. CST.
The Rochester Honkers began their 30th season of play on May 29th.
