Week 2 Recap

The Rockford IceHogs remained unblemished after three more games during Week 2 of the 2005-06 United Hockey League season. Rockford swept a weekend set against Western Division opponents, including home-and-home wins over the Quad City Mallards. The Hogs have a pair of games on the horizon for Week 3 including an undefeated showdown with the Kalamazoo Wings on Wednesday at the Rockford MetroCentre.

Sunday, October 30: Rockford IceHogs 3 at Quad City Malllards 1:

The Rockford IceHogs made it a perfect six-for-six on Sunday, knocking off the rival Quad City Mallards 3-1 at the MARK of the Quad Cities to start the season 6-0-0. Rockford tied a club record with their sixth straight win. The Mallards took the early 1-0 lead in the first period when winger Chad Woollard tallied on the power play at 5:18. The Hogs tied the contest before the intermission with Preston Mizzi's league leading ninth goal of the season at 19:06. In the second frame, Hogs winger Greg Barber put Rockford on top at 5:11, beating Mallards goalie Jason Tapp. Rockford then added an insurance goal at 7:45 after Olivier Proulx set up rookie winger Robin Big Snake for his fourth goal of the campaign. Goalie Michel Robinson made his second Rockford start of the season and picked up the win turning away 25 Quad City shots. Tapp was given the loss after making 31 saves.

Transactions

-Joy was released on Sunday, October 30.

-Robinson was returned to Rockford on Sunday, October 30. -Goaltender Andrew Joy re-signed with the IceHogs on Friday, October 28.

-Defenseman Bob Nardella was signed on Friday, October 28.

-Goaltender Michel Robinson was re-called to the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) on Thursday, October 27.

-Forward Vince Malts was traded to the Elmira Jackals for future considerations on Wednesday, October 26.

-Forward Alex Kim was placed on Team Suspension on Tuesday, October 25.

-Defenseman Nathan Lutz was re-called to the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL) on Monday, October 24.

Bacon Bits:

Rockford is 6-0-0 for the first time in club history.

The IceHogs six-game winning streak ties a club record for most straight wins. The Hogs won six in a row from 3/16/03-3/27/03.

Center Preston Mizzi leads the UHL with 9 goals. Mizzi also has a goal in four straight games, one game shy of the Hogs team record.

Center Olivier Proulx has a point in each of the Hogs first six games (2g-7a-9pts), including an assist in each of the past five contests.

Rookie winger Chaz Johnson has an assist in four straight games.

Rockford leads the UHL with 33 goals scored and has a goal differential of +19 through six games.

The IceHogs finished the month of October a perfect 6-0-0. Over the past two seasons Rockford is 11-1-1 in October under Head Coach Steve Martinson. In the previous two seasons, Rockford was 14-18-4.

Martinson coached in his 700th regular season game Saturday when the Hogs faced-off against the Quad City Mallards.

Hot Hog Week 2:

Center Preston Mizzi continued his hot start for Rockford, netting goals in all three games during Week 2. Mizzi began the week with a hat trick against Missouri Friday and proceeded to score two more Saturday and one Sunday against Quad City. Mizzi leads the UHL with 9 goals.

Upcoming Games:

Wednesday, November 2 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs and Wings drop the puck in a rematch of last season's thrilling first round playoff matchup. Wednesday is this season's first FlyAway Wednesday with the IceHogs, Rockford Airport and Allegiant Air. Every fan that enters the MetroCentre will be registered to win a pair of airline tickets from Allegiant Air!

Saturday, November 5 at Missouri River Otters. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. The Hogs and Otters match-up once again, this time back in Missouri. The Hogs look to continue their success on the road with the third contest of the season with the Otters.

HogTalk returns tonight at Shooter's North located at 7742 Forest Hills Road in Loves Park from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The show is hosted by WXRX's Jim Stone and Double T and features IceHogs Head Coach Steve Martinson each Monday. Also this week, Greg Barber, Preston Mizzi and Olivier Proulx will be there to talk Hogs hockey and meet fans.

Rockford IceHogs fans can catch all IceHogs Regular and Post Season games on Rockford's Voice, 1330 AM WNTA. Fans can also watch and listen to the Hogs on the World Wide Web with the B2 Networks! Log on to the IceHogs Web site (icehogs.com) and click on the "click here to watch the game live" icon, and for just $6, you can catch all of the IceHogs action on your computer. New to the network this season is ESPN Radio "The Jock" 1380 AM. The Jock will broadcast 20 Hogs games during the regular season. Check your local listings. Also, fans with Insight Cable television can tune into Channel 57 for all the IceHogs hockey action this season. The IceHogs broadcast begins with the Pregame Show 20 minutes before the puck drops.
