K-Wings Week in Review
October 31, 2005 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
The Kalamazoo Wings started the week on Friday (10/28) against the Motor City Mechanics. The K-Wings received stellar goaltending from Jeff Reynaert and a breakout performance from Joe Seroski to skate past the Mechanics 6-0. Reynaert stopped all 29 shots he faced to record the K-Wings 19th shutout in their UHL history. Seroski (1,2,3) tied a K-Wings season high with four points (3 goals, 1 assist), including the franchise's 26th hat trick in their UHL history. The K-Wings also received scoring from Tyler Rennette (2) and a two-goal performance from Kory Karlander (2,3) in the victory.
After two straight games on the road, the K-Wings returned home to Wings Stadium to a standing room only crowd of 5,180 last Saturday (10/29) as they hosted their archrivals the Fort Wayne Komets. Kalamazoo opened up the scoring in the second period with a goal from Lucas Drake (1) and never looked back in their 4-1 victory over the Komets. Kalamazoo's top ranked power play unit paved the way for the eventual game winning goal, when Tyler Rennette (3) lit the lamp just 52 seconds into the final period to give the K-Wings a 2-nothing lead. Fort Wayne's Mark Smith (3) cut the Kalamazoo lead to a single goal; however, the Kalamazoo put the game on ice with two empty-net goals from Nick Bootland (3,4) to secure the victory for the K-Wings
Fast Forward
The K-Wings perfect 3-0-0 record will be put the test this week as Kalamazoo hits the ice three times. On Wednesday (11/2), it will be a rematch of last year's first round of the Colonial Cup playoffs, as well as a game that will pit two undefeated teams, when the K-Wings travel to Rockford to battle the IceHogs. The IceHogs start the week atop the Western Division with a perfect record of 6-0-0 (12 points). Lifetime, the K-Wings are 31-19-7 against the IceHogs.
Kalamazoo will stay in the Western Division on Friday (11/4) at 7:30 p.m., when they host the Missouri River Otters at Wings Stadium. The K-Wings are 34-12-5 all-time against the Otters. Missouri starts the week still in search of their first win of the young season. The Otters are fourth in the Western Conference with a record of 0-5-0 (0 points). Friday's game coincides with Scout Night, which is presented by Meijer and Q 106.5 FM.
The K-Wings will conclude the week on the road with a divisional game against the Muskegon Fury. Like the K-Wings, the Fury start the week tied for second in the Central Division with a record of 3-0-0 (6 points). All-time the K-Wings are 15-25-6 against their intra-state rivals.
Getting Off to a Good Start
