Elmira Jackals News Release

Week 2 Game Results:

10/28/05 @ Danbury JAckals 4 - Danbury 2

Danbury, CT - The Elmira Jackals earned their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Danbury Trashers ruining the Trashers home opener Friday night at the Danbury Ice Arena.

Drew Omicioli opened the scoring with a short-handed goal six minutes into the game, unassisted for a 1-0 lead. But Elmira struck back with a shorty of their own. Eddy Lowe opened his account with a goal at 7:01, assisted by Jarrett Konkle, who's superb fore-checking set up the tying goal. Omicioli regained the Trashers' lead at 11:09 with his second unassisted goal of the period, but the Jackals again responded. Mike Dombkiewicz blasted home his second goal of the season at 16:18, assisted by Konkle and Jason Jaworski for a 4-on-3 power play goal to tie the game at one.

Thanks to the excellent goaltending of Ryan McIntosh, the Jackals began to take control in the second period. At 11:55 Jason Jaworski was sent clear by Chris Chaput and the defenseman did not miss, lifted a back-hander up over the glove of goalie Sylvain Daigle for Elmira's first lead of the game 3-2. Four minutes later Konkle got an assist hat trick when he lead Kevin Cooper into the open. Cooper's wrist shot snapped off the underside of the crossbar at 15:57 for his first goal in a Jackal uniform, giving Elmira a 4-2 lead going into the second intermission.

In the third period the Trashers had several great chances to find the net, but McIntosh foiled all attempts and blanked Danbury for the final two periods.

Ryan McIntosh earned the win in his first start this season for the Jackals, stopping 39-of-41 for his first two points. Danbury goaltender Sylvain Daigle made 17 saves in the loss.

10/29/05 @ Elmira Jackals 7 - Roanoke 5

Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals won their second straight game as they beat the Roanoke Valley Vipers 7-5 Saturday night at the First Arena.

Meeting for the first time this season and also since Roanoke entered the UHL, Elmira was caught napping early by the Vipers. David Beauregard scored 25 seconds into the contest, converting on a bad turnover for a 1-0 Roanoke lead. The Jackals however would respond in a big way, scoring the next six goals of the game. Eddy Lowe tied the game with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 7:41, assisted by Vince Malts and goaltender Nick Boucher. Twelve seconds later Kevin Cooper made it 2-1 Jackals with another power play goal, assisted by Mike Dombkiewicz and Trevor Burgess. Elmira's leading scorer Jarrett Konkle added to his goal total by scoring two straight goals in the first period. First Konkle scored at 13:58 assisted by Malts, then he made it 4-1 Jackals at 16:55 from Burgess and Sam Paolini.

In the second period Elmira continued to score, first when captain Trevor Burgess scored his first goal of the season at 10:01 from Cooper to make it 5-1. Then the Jackals picked up their second short-handed goal of the season, and second in as many nights, when Josh Piro tapped home a rebound from Cooper and Burgess at 12:51. Trailing 6-1 Roanoke would not go quietly into the night. They would score the next 4 goals, starting with a Josh Tataryn strike at 15:09 of the second period, sending this game to the final frame at 6-2.

In the final frame, Roanoke would score three more times to draw within one goal. Mark Scott scored at 4:34, then Petr Jelinek's power play goal at 7:53 made it 6-4. Scott's second goal of the night at 18:48 made the Jackals fans at the First Arena nervous, but the Vipers could not complete the comeback. Sam Paolini would ice the game with his first goal of the season, an empty net goal at 19:09 to top off a 7-5 Elmira win.

Jackals starter Nick Boucher continued his mid-season form, stopping 33-of-38 for his first win of the season. Shawn Conschafter made 26 saves on 32 shots for losing side Roanoke in his first start of the year.

JACKALS PLAYER AND GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: (WEEK 2)

Jarrett Konkle - RW 2 GP, 2 goals, 3 assists, 5 pts, +4, 0 PIMs

Jarrett Konkle has exploded out of the gate for Elmira this season. The 2005 Elmira College graduate had a helper-hat trick Friday night recording 3 assists and a +3 rating during Friday's 4-2 win in Danbury. Saturday Konkle scored two goals to help the Jackals beat Roanoke in their home opener 7-5.

Ryan McIntosh - G 1 GP, 1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, 0.951 SV%, 39 saves

Ryan McIntosh made a bold statement in his first start since returning to the Elmira Jackals. A member of the 2003-04 Colonial Cup Runners Up, McIntosh led the Jackals in spoiling the Danbury Trashers home opener. Friday night the Calgary, Alberta native returned to the Danbury Ice Arena where he finished the 2004-05 season, in a Trashers uniform, and stopped a colossal 39-of-41 shots to beat Danbury 4-2. McIntosh leads the Jackals with a 2.00 GAA and a 0.951 save percentage.

JACKALS PLAYER AND GOALTENDER OF THE Month: (October)

JACKALS Rookie OF THE Month: (October)

Jarrett Konkle - RW 4 GP, 4 goals, 3 assists, 7 pts, +5, 0 PIMs

After being named the Jackals Player of the Week, Player of the Month, and now Rookie of the Month, it is hard to believe that Jarrett Konkle has only played 11 professional games. He leads the Jackals in scoring with 7 points in just 4 games thus far this season. He played 7 games last spring for Elmira, netting 5 points then, to give him a grand career total of 12 points in 11 games.

JACKAL BITES:

- POETIC JUSTICE - In his first start since being traded to Elmira from Danbury, Goalie Ryan McIntosh stone-walled the Trashers with 39 saves in a 4-2 win, spoiling Danbury's home opener.

- FRESH TOUGHNESS - C Craig MacDonald has been a surprise in the penalty minutes department. The Elmira College grad is currently leading the Jackals in PIMs with 26 minutes.

- WHO NEEDS FIVE SKATERS? - The Jackals are on a mini short-handed goal streak. They have scored with a man down in each of the last two games. Eddy Lowe scored a short-handed goal Friday in Danbury and Josh Piro scored one Saturday at the First Arena.

- BIG CROWDS, BIG GOALS - Elmira's home opener Saturday night at the First Arena was a sell-out crowd of 3,845. As the Jackals hosted Roanoke it was also a goal fest, a combined 12-goals were scored in a 7-5 Elmira victory.
