Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Diablos righty Scott Hodsdon continued his strong pitching against the Grand Prairie AirHogs this season, as his offense scored consistently throughout the game, helping El Paso to a 11-1 win on Friday night at Cohen Stadium in the opener of the teams' three-game series.
Hodsdon (4-6), held the Airhogs to five hits and one walk, struck out five and induced 16 grounders, getting just four outs via his outfielders. Hodsdon also got one double play, one pickoff and on infield pop-up.
The AirHogs (56-35) had a two-out triple in the first by David Espinosa on a ball that hit the top of the wall in center and came back into play, and that was the only time they had a runner at third. Hodsdon did not allow two baserunners in any inning until back-to-back two-out doubles in the ninth ended the shutout, retired 11 in a row at one point and held the AirHogs to four balls hit out of the infield after the fifth inning.
Hodsdon's counterpart, Jason Jennings (9-2), had a three-batter first inning, but gave up runs in four of the next five frames. El Paso (34-56) opened the scoring with an Alberto Espinosa double in the second, and scored on a sacrifice fly and a solo home run by Nelson Teilon in the third to go up 3-0. After a three-batter fourth, Uriak Marquez's three-run, two-out double punctuated a rally that started after Jennings had retired the first two hitters.
The righty was knocked out in the sixth, as El Paso scored three runs against him and Bo Schultz, before the Diablos added one more of Schultz in the seventh and one off new AirHog Craig James in the eighth.
