Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox got a seventh inning homerun from Jason White to tie the game against the Kansas City T-Bones on Friday night, while they got a bases loaded tenth inning error to give them a walkoff 7-6 victory in front of 2,231 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.
Sox reliever Chad Povich (7-3) got the win, pitching a scoreless tenth against the T-Bones. Kansas City reliever Brian Grening (5-3) got the loss, allowing the tying homerun and the winning run to score in the tenth.
The T-Bones took the early lead in the first inning as Rico Washington hit an RBI single, while Ray Sadler hit a sacrifice fly for a two-run advantage.
In the bottom half, Ron Fenwick led off with a single, stole second and went to third on an Adam De La Garza single. Following a De La Garza single and stolen base, Van Pope walked to load the bases. Nick Farnsworth came up and grounded a ball to first, but the relay throw to the pitcher was dropped to score both Fenwick and De La Garza to tie the game. Kevin Butler, White and Harrison Kain all singled to score runs which gave the Sox a 5-2 lead.
Kansas City chipped away with a solo homerun in the second by Jeff Hulett and a third inning RBI single by Kala Ka'aihue. The T-Bones came all the way back with RBI doubles from Peter Barrows and Keanon Simon for a 6-5 lead.
Sox starter Matt Elliott kept the T-Bones off the board through the seventh inning, while White delivered a leadoff solo homerun in the bottom half of the seventh to tie the game 6-6.
Neither team was able to score in the remainder of regulation to send the game to extras. In the tenth, Lee Cruz doubled with one out, while Tim Alberts was intentionally walked and Pope was unintentionally walked to load the bases. With the wind blowing in, Farnsworth sent a high fly ball to left field which Barrows got under, but could not catch to score Cruz and give Amarillo the 7-6 walkoff victory.
With the win, the Sox improve to 40-51 while the T-Bones fall to 42-47. Saturday, Amarillo will take on Kansas City for the final game of a three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
