St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Losing a seventh game in a row is not what the St. Paul Saints had in mind in opening their last homestand of the season, but that's exactly what happened as the Saints fell to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks by a score of 8-1 on Friday night in front of 6,230 fans at Midway Stadium.

Edwin Walker started for the Saints and without his best fastball, battled through 4.1 innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth inning with the scored tied at one. After hitting Nic Jackson with a pitch to load the bases with no outs, Jesse Hoorelbeke followed with a base knock making it 3-1 RedHawks. Walker left the game with the bases loaded and one out, making way for Alberto Rolon who induced an inning ending double play to end the threat.

Rolon, however, ran into trouble of his own in the sixth inning. After the first two men reached base, Zach Penprase had an RBI base hit to make it 4-1 and CJ Retherford followed with a two-run double to open their lead to 6-1. The RedHawks added two runs in the ninth inning.

RedHawks starter Dan Blewett, on the other hand, was brilliant. After giving up an unearned run in the 1st inning, Blewett recorded his second win of the season going 8.0 innings, yielding just five hits and one walk, while striking out seven Saints. Joe Harris pitched a scoreless ninth to close out the game.

The Saints seventh straight loss is tied for the third longest in franchise history. The last time they hit that mark were the final six games of the 2008 season and the first game of 2009. The franchise record for consecutive losses is eight.

These two squads meet again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. for the middle game of a three game set. The Saints have not yet decided on a starting pitcher while the RedHawks will send LHP Kevin Light (1-1, 5.63) to the mound. It is "Winter in Summer" presented by Welch Village Ski and Snowboard Resort. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
