Sioux City 4, Sioux Falls 1

Explorers 3B Wally Backman had a hand in all four of Sioux City's runs, scoring in the sixth and hitting a three-run homer in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie. The homer was Backman's only hit of the night. Starting Sioux City pitcher David Trahan threw seven and two-thirds innings and struck out five batters while allowing five hits and a run. Trahan's ERA is now 2.67. Sioux Falls 1B Mark Shorey and CF Reggie Abercrombie each went 2-for-4, accounting for four of the Pheasants' five hits.

Fargo-Moorhead 8, St. Paul 1

RedHawks SS Zach Penprase fulfilled his responsibilities as leadoff man Friday night, reaching base three times in five plate appearances and scoring three runs in Fargo-Moorhead's 8-1 win over St. Paul. Though he had only one hit, the 6-foot-2 Moorpark, Calif. resident forced St. Paul pitchers into long at-bats and registered two walks from Saints hurlers. Batting behind Penprase in the No. 2 spot, 3B C.J. Retherford went 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI. The Saints never led Fargo-Moorhead, holding a 1-1 tie until a two-run RedHawks fifth inning that put the visitors on top for good. At the plate for St. Paul, RF Shane Costa had three of his team's five hits and its only RBI.

Amarillo 7, Kansas City 6 (10 innings)

The Sox took advantage of a Kansas City error to take a 7-6, walk-off win in the 10th inning over the T-Bones on Friday. With the bases loaded and one out, Amarillo 1B Nick Farnsworth's shot to left field was booted, allowing DH Lee Cruz to score from third. Cruz doubled in the second at-bat of the frame for his only hit of the night. The T-Bones jumped on top, 2-0, in the top of the first, but Amarillo scored five runs in the bottom of the frame and never trailed again. All five scores in the first for the Sox were unearned. In all, Amarillo had only one earned run in the game. T-Bones LF Peter Barrows went 3-for-4 on the night, scoring a run and batting one in to co-lead the game in hits.

Wichita 8, Gary SouthShore 6

The Wingnuts watched an early 5-0 lead disappear over the middle and late innings and entered the bottom of the ninth trailing, 6-5. Enter Wichita 3B Juan Richardson. Already with two hits and an RBI in the game, Richardson took a 3-2, two-out pitch out of the park to score himself and his two teammates already on base to give the Wingnuts an 8-6, walk off win. It was Richardson's 10th homer of the year. Gary SouthShore SS Brian Kolb scored two runs and batted in two more during the RailCats comeback, but his 3-for-5 night wasn't enough to stop Richardson and the Wingnuts. Wichita pulls within one game of Gary SouthShore in the Central Division Standings and is one game up on St. Paul in the Wild Card Standings.

Fort Worth 9, Shreveport-Bossier 5

Cats C Kelley Gulledge went 4-for-5 and fell a triple shy of the cycle, batting in three runs and scoring two of his own to power Fort Worth past Shreveport-Bossier, 9-5. Gulledge hit a third-inning homer and doubled twice off Shreveport-Bossier pitching. The Captains took a 1-0 lead on a first-inning Palmer Karr Jr. RBI single. But three runs from Fort Worth in the second and another four in the third put the Cats on top for good. The Fort Worth pitching staff put in a team effort with no hurler throwing more than three innings and reliever Griffin Bailey picking up the win, allowing one hit in one and two-thirds innings with two strikeouts.

El Paso 11, Grand Prairie 1

Starting El Paso pitcher Scott Hodsdon threw a complete game and allowed just one ninth-inning run on five hits while striking out five en route to his fourth win of the year. Six different El Paso batters had multiple hits, allowing the Diablos to cruise to an 11-1 victory over Grand Prairie. RF Nelson Teilon hit the game's only home run - a solo shot in the third - and went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Diablos 2B Uriak Marquez doubled Teilon's RBI total, batting in four and scoring one while tying for the game high in hits with three. The lone AirHogs run came on a David Espinosa double in the ninth, denying Hodsdon a complete-game shutout.

Winnipeg 1, Lincoln 1 (In progress - Top 12)

Nine innings hasn't been enough for Winnipeg and Lincoln. Neither was 10 or 11. The Goldeyes and Saltdogs are tied at one run apiece in the top of the 12th inning.
